Google for:

microsoft browser plugin patent infringement

It was "big" news last month. It's actually a UC patent and Eolas
Technologies paid UC for exclusivie right to relicense or something like
that.

They also mentioned certain media devices. I assume this means set top
boxes not running MS OSs.

That's wierd terminology. Maybe someone made it up. Unix supports links,
both hard and symbolic, but this is totally unrelated to forking. Maybe
someone was confusing the terms?
