I have the same problem with Win98.
As it was explained to me, a Windows 98 network driver,
I do NOT remember the filename, does not recognize OS/2
as long-filename capable, thus provides only 8.3 format
filenames.
On OS/2 user (possibly Brandon Allberry) once mentioned
publicly on a list or whatever, that replacing the Win98
driver with the Win95 driver might work, since the Win 95
driver seemed to respond correctly. I wrote him and
did receive a suggestion of how to proceed. [This was
several years ago and I'm working from aged memory now.]
I tried, but either did not have enough information, or
whatever, and was not successful. I have since considered
hunting down the differences and trying a binary patch,
but I don't really have the software skills or tools for
that job. So it would become a real learning experience
for me.
Because of where the problem appears to be located, I doubt
that simply simply installing the FAT32 filesystem on the OS/2
machine would allow the Win98 machine to send long filenames.
I have NOT tried this.
Nevertheless, I am greatly interested in fixing this problem,
and could be persuaded to search my archives for whatever
additional information I can find.
