Umm, no, I've been on DSL through Verizon for a long time and just
yesterday moved the machine to Cox Cable in San Diego. Both are DHCP.
Verizon is 4.x.x.x and Cox is 68.x.x.x -- neither of them covers the
216.40.201.216 address that RBL mentions.
But you've found the problem, Jeff.
I use ZoneEdit to forward my several domains to my Verizon email
account. Whois at Network Solutions (my registrar for peterskye.com)
lists these DNS for peterskye.com which are correct:
NS1.ZONEEDIT.COM 207.228.252.101
NS2.ZONEEDIT.COM 65.125.228.66
And I just ran nslookup with type=mx and got a "proper" ip address (the
ZoneEdit domain).
BUT, with type=a the returned ip addresses are:
Name: peterskye.com
Addresses: 216.40.201.216, 209.81.71.83
which is where the 216.40.201.216 "spammer" IP address is coming from.
I only use peterskye.com for email (type=mx) and I don't have the
slightest idea why the ZoneEdit DNS A record points to EV1 (or whatever
216.40.201.216 is). I guess I'll make some inquiries tomorrow.
Thanks, Jeff.
