Thank you for the tip.  I did not see any difference in the number of 
bytes in any of the dock.cfg files but I replaced those in c: with those 
in the backup anyway.  That resolved the problem. 
Will my proposed procedure for restoring c: from l: work? 
Would you please tell me how you find space for dSync to backup every 
night?  Do you backup to tape?  How many generations do you keep?
