How did you try to reboot? Ctrl-Alt-Delete?

Not really. The shutdown must have been able to shutdown all the other
drives but one that caused the shutdown to fail. Even then, there was not
real activity going on, so one would expect the chkdsk to not find much,
if anything, that needed fixing.
The problems occur if the system is really busy when the failure occurs.
Most users really can't keep a system all that busy.
