Does your CONFIG.SYS on the Installation Diskette have the following
line:

SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=3D1
??? and =

RESERVEDRIVELETTER=3DX
???

It seems that you do not have these entries !?

SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=3D1
is just to avoid what you described between the above ;-)

RESERVEDRIVELETTER=3DW
With "W" your CD-ROM driveletter is explicitely set to "X" ...
=2E.. you also can set "R", like I do, and get the CD drive set =

to "S" like system !?
