OK, I now at least have the bios and the PQmagic ver 5 ptedit program
agreeing on the head and sector counts.

I tried your config.sys and snoop.lst, with only the ide attached, and the
2gb hpfs partition still on it...

Same hang in the same place.

You did not say whether I should delete that 2gb hpfs partition on the ide;
I deleted it, since PQmagic ver 5 seemed to have an issue with it, and
reloaded the install diskettes...

This time it booted to the Welcome screen!! Yea!

So the partition formatting may have been the problem with the diskettes
prior to your recent changes, and possibly because of the bios/PQmagic
differences on the drive geometry.

Next step? (going to bed now, I'll do more tomorrow)
