I can't cite for you _which_ versions (DOS, OS/2, Win-32) of XCOPY do this, 
but when I've XCopied whole directory tree sections, or wildcarded blocks of 
files, Off of a CD, I've noticed that the "R" attribute often disappears.  Evidently, 
a different default behavior, at least for that version of XCOPY, in certain

I prefer ZTBOLD for all such mass-file maneuvers.  Makes it all pretty simple, 
and hard to mess up.  Of course, ZTB is not free, but it remains one of the very 
best shareware purchases I **ever** made.  I'd be up the 'crick without it.
