Jack,
I have RSJ installed on my system, so perhaps I can help you with some of your
questions:
1. I installed mine from an executable file that I downloaded and not from a CD.
Therefore, I don't know if you install from your CD. I used a temporary directory for the
executable (on the C:\ drive) and installed from there. That's probably the safest
method.
2. The RSJ install program let me install it where I wanted.
3. The install program puts the RSJIDECD.FLT and LOCKCDR.FLT files in
c:\os2\boot. Also, it updates your config.sys file with a several new lines. Then you
have to reboot
4. I would strongly suggest that you do the RSJ install, first, and get that working
properly before you do anything about Daniela's drivers. The issue here is that the
installation may not work first time around. Mine didn't and I had to contact RSJ for a fix.
The problem is that RSJ tries to auto detect your CD hardware. It has a database (the
cddrv.inf file) and your hardware may not be in that database, so it won't auto detect it
during bootup. If that problem happens in your case, you will first have to contact RSJ
and get that straightened out. Tell them what hardware you have and they will E-Mail
you a new cddrv.inf file to accommodate your situation. You will also have to modify
one line in the config.sys. They will instruct you on that.
5. After you get the RSJ installation up and running, I can help you with using
Daniela's drivers. You have to get a couple of drivers, DANIATAPI.FLT and
ASPIROUT.SYS. You have to modify a couple of RSJ lines in the config.sys. The
advantages of her drivers are:
A. Better drivers (better throughput)
B. You can use your read/write CD unit as a read only unit (you can see
and read from the drive icon for the unit) without using the RSJ software to "attach" your
unit. This is known as Daniela's "back door". Without this back door you have to open
RSJ and attach your CD unit, even if you only want to read from it and not write to it.
Good luck
HCM
