Sure there is.
Get your own domain name and use it for your email address. Then use
somebody like ZoneEdit to bounce your email over to whatever
ISP/emailaddress you're currently using.
That's how I do it with my domains (including peterskye.com) -- the mail
is currently bounced to my gibberish name at my verizon.net address. If
someday I get mad at Verizon and decide to sign up with, say,
foxgalactic.net then all I have to do is go to ZoneEdit and switch the
bounce address.
Of course, if ZoneEdit someday goes bye-bye then I have to find a new
bounce service plus update my DNS record at the domain registrar. But
my email address remains the same.
Cheapest domain registrar I've found is GoDaddy
(http://www.godaddy.com/). I have several names with GoDaddy and I've
had no problems. $8.95/year. Network Solutions charges me four times
that amount, and when my five-year renewal is up in 2007 I'll switch
these older domains to somebody cheaper.
