Was this a laptop purchased new ?
As has been the case at different times, IBM is currently offering some good deals on
refurbished notebooks

, but I would be somewhat leery of taking that route . . . unless price was absolutely critical,
and I happened to be in a gambling mood. Maybe their inspection and certification process
is outstanding, but I'd be concerned about inheriting someone else's problem, which may have
gone undetected, and then lacking the full-on, long-term warranty to cover it.
