That's not going to work unless you understand the binary layout of the
INI files as well as the logical layout of the handle tables. Even if you
could edit out the corruption in the handles table, if would be very
difficult to figure out what the correct data should be.

Also, I have to assume that you are attempted to edit the old INIs while
some other set of INIs is active or you would not have a usable Desktop.
This is not for the faint of heart.

If this is not the case, you need to try to explain more clearly what's
actually happening.
