Check the VDM session settings. There are some options to force the
printer ports closed after some time period.

Probably, but you can set the port properties to shared. That might help.

The program proably has two parts. One that is loaded when you start
Win-eCS and the other part which you think of as the program. Check for
load commands in the [windows] section of win.ini.
