I don't know anything about the Sony, but can highly recommend Plextors.
I have a SCSI SCSI R/RW from them, that's been great, but now they seemed
to be dropping SCSI like many others. I've heard that their IDE drives
continue their reputation for high quality.

I don't even know if you can find them at Fry's. Order them via Internet.
