This is not so much a security question as an effective response
question.

My firewall is logging up to a dozen attempted port scans per day.
I've had the firewall -- on this DSL service -- for over 3 years now,
and this volume of them is unprecedented, although it has been
gradually getting worse. In the past, I would mostly get attempted
Sub-7 and Netbus attacks; the port scan thing was maybe one or two a
month, at worst. In fact, the attack attempts were previously rather
sparse overall. I'm not seeing much commonality in the reported
Source of the attempts, but I imagine those source locations are
probably spoofed, anyway.

O.K., the firewall is doing its job. Previously, Steven has said
'These things are like dust. Ignore them.' Or words to that effect.
Well, I'm starting to get sick of this. I'd love to track down the
SOBs responsible, and cause some real problems for them.
Realistically speaking, I doubt that Pac Bell gives a rat's
hindquarters about it. Are there any other counter-actions, abuse
complaints, or something else I might do about this ? Something that
might actually get a result ?
