After installing SP2 on the XP machine which serves as my Network and ICS host, I can't run Internet Explorer on two windows machines without turning off the Firewall on the host for both the home network and the Satellite feed. I've tried a number of "exceptions" on the firewall without success. Anyone have a clue? Here's how I got here.

I installed SP2 on an XP machine which serves as ICS host for an MSHOME lan. It seemed flawless. Ran the Network setup to restore it with ICS. Ran the Setup program it generated on a floppy on my notebook (XP SP1) and another desktop (Win ME). Did nothing but reboot my OS/2 box.

Results:

XP (SP2) machine (network & ICS host) seems functional in all respects.

OS/2 box (network client) functional in all respects without doing anything.

Windows ME box, full network OK. Mail Client does reach its server so ICS looks OK. But Internet Explorer reports "Finalizing installation" in a moving ribbon under the URL box and can't reach any URL.

Notebook XP SP1 box, full network OK. Mail Client does reach its server so ICS looks OK. Internet Explorer simply reports "The page cannot be displayed" with no other indication of error.

Turning off the Firewall on the XP SP2 host does allow the Windows client machines to reach internet URL's using Internet Explorer.
