Perhaps. Create a new test profile and see if that makes a difference in
the load time.

No, I won't Steve's stuff is correct. It's you who keeps bringing up
Java as a possible culprit even though everyone tells you Mozilla will not
even run Java v1.1.8.

>Who's running applets?

Definitely not you. Many of the rest of us are.

Whatever.

Whoever it was made an excellent recommendation.

At this point I suspect you are CPU bound for some reason that's not
entirely obvious.

I took my bookmarks files and replicated it sufficiently to bring it up to
about 1.5MB. When loaded, the screen refreshed immediately and Mozilla
took about 10 seconds to finish loading the page.

Then I took your original sample added H1 and H2 tags and replicated it to
about 1.5MB file. When loaded, the screen refreshed immediately and
Mozilla took about 40 seconds to finish loading the page. This is slower
than I expected, but no entirely unexpected because the layout of your
page is more complex than the bookmarks page.

I probably should install v1.7.2 to see how much faster it is compared to
this old, non-optimized daily build I happen to have installed.

Under NS4.61, the sample page takes about 4 seconds before the first
screen displays and then takes another 15 seconds or so to finish loading.
Reloads are much faster which is odd because I am clearing the cache
between loads. I guess NS is hanging only to data outside the cache.
