I had been using the beta versions up through 1.8a5 and encountered  
"problems" with each of them.  I went back to the last official release  
which was 1.7 and found it to be more stable.  
 
It is so easy to switch versions, I'll try the next 1.8x - - if it is  
painful, I can always go back.
