Subject: SCOUG-Help: New-ISP problems

For the record: I received an almost-instantaneous rebuttal to my
speculation that F/X Communications was no longer supporting InJoy
(see below). Unfortunately, the end result seems to be the same--
no help. Since the ISPs refuse to even attempt troubleshooting the
problem, I had hoped that someone at either F/X or SCOUG could point
me in the right direction.

Jack,

Of course we support our products, as you can also see on our
mailing list.

However, as you can read on our web-page, the InJoy Dialer
is supported under the terms "best-effort". That means we are
doing our best, but we can't always guarantee a fast reply
(and this past week we have been extremely busy).

Please do not jump to conclusions about our support. 9 out of 10
users typically get an instant reply and we do our best with the
resources at hand.

>I'm still struggling to get a new ISP up and running. As expected,
>the ISPs that I've talked to disclaim any knowledge of or ability
>to support OS/2; but one (GTCinternet.com) finally came through with
>the information I needed (IP address, nameserver address, etc.) for
>setting up InJoy. With that information, I've managed to generate
>a script that makes the initial connection. Unfortunately, that
>connection then fails at the authentication stage (e.g. "CHAP:
>Authentication failed"). I've tried it with all three authenti-
>cation modes (PAP, CHAP and MS-CHAP) enabled and with only PAP or
>CHAP enabled.

>How can I find out what is causing this and how to correct it?

>Perhaps contributing to the problem--I notice several "Unknown LCP
>option :type :" lines in the early stages of the connection. "LCP"
>is not addressed in the InJoy documentation.

>Note also, that InJoy was unable to reset ACCM to zero, so that
>option has been inactivated.

>Queries to F/X Communications (the InJoy developer) over the past
>10 days have been ignored. Apparently F/X no longer supports
>InJoy.

>Thanks for any enlightenment.

>Jack P.
