Sounds like it _could_ be_ a memory (RAM) problem. A nice
freeware memory test program you can use to _EXCLUDE_
a memory hardware problem (perhaps you already have) is
called "memtest86". Should be easy to find the latest version.
OS/2 uses RAM differently (top down?) than the dark side
(bottom up?), which _may_ account for the difference.
Let it run for hours & hours (at LEAST overnight) to increase
your confidence in the result. [It once took me a several-day
memory test to flush out a flaky memory SIMM].
