The virus message that came through the SCOUG-Help list yesterday is, as
far as I can determine so far, a spoof of one of our members'
addresses. The original time stamp in the header is -0500 which means
it came from the midwest time zone.
The message is titled "Hi", came through the SCOUG-Help list server at
16:44 (-0700) on Wednesday, and contains a body which says "Important
document!" with an attached .zip file. The .zip file contains one file
which is named Important.txt(manyspaces).exe; this is an executable so
be _very_ careful. I recommend that you delete the entire message so
there's no chance in the future in will be opened and accidentally run.
If you are using virus detection software then it may have been caught
automatically.
I didn't receive this message until this morning due to a couple of
technical glitches including a dead POP3 mail server at one of my ISPs.
Apologies for not being aware of this message earlier.
- Peter
