Manuals can be like that. Since approximately the late 80s many of the
OS/2 commands understand the /? option:

[j:\tmp]cmd
OS/2 Command Interpreter version 4.5

[J:\TMP]dir /?
Use the DIR command to list the files and subdirectories.
Syntax:
DIR [drive:][path][filename][/W or /F][/P][/N][/A][/B][/O][/R][/S][/L]
where:
drive:\path\filename Specifies directories and files to list.
/W Displays directory listing horizontally.
/F Displays fully-qualified file names.
/P Pauses after each screen of information.
/N Displays listing in the new OS/2 format.
/A Displays specified attributes.
/B Displays file name and extension.
/O Orders the display by specified fields.
/R Displays LONGNAME extended attributes.
(/R is a DOS-mode parameter only.)
/S Displays all subdirectories.
/L Displays directory info in lower-case.

If you used 4OS2, all of the commands would understand /?. Also if you
used 4OS2, your first attempt would have worked because 4OS2 understands
most sensible orderings of command line options.

Regards,

Steven
