No, it does not have to work, but I agree it should work. One would think
that the BIOS for the 600E is sufficiently new to allow booting from above
the 1024 limit.

What does:

fdisk /query:bootable

or

lvm /query:bootable

report?

It is possible you will need to update both the MBR and BM to get the
drive recognized correctly. It appears you may have used something other
than fdisk or lvm to partition the drives.
