Tom,
I have 2 suggestions:

1. First, attached please find the file, altf2on.$$$. Place it in the top
directory of your boot drive (C:\, for example) and then try to boot up. It is simply an
ASCII file that tells your system to dump the driver loading data to your screen. It's just
like you pressing ALT-F2 during the boot process. You may be able to see what driver
is loading and trapping your system.

2. Secondly, based on your information about CHECK.INI, perhaps you
have corrupted OS2.SYS and/or OS2SYS.INI files. Can you restore a different set of
these files from a previous backup and try your boot up?
