The behavior that I'm used to seeing (with Moz 1.5 or later) is like what  
you  
describe as the "Before."  NS 4.61 could not do this, and worked like your  
description of  "After."  I do not recall what occurred, when I used Mozilla  
 
prior to ver. 1.5  (Clearly, the "Before" is a lot more useful.)  I have not  
been  
on Ebay for the last couple weeks, but will see if anything has changed and  
let you know.
