In Mozilla changing the subject does not change the thread.  How does   
this message thread in whatever mail program you are using.  
 
Instead of just grabbing an existing message and replying to it to   
create a new subject, right click on the reply-to address and click   
compose-mail-to.  Or, right click on reply-to, click add-to-address.   
Then instead of clicking reply, click compose, start typing sco... and   
the address book will fill in the rest, and you will have a new, clean   
message.
