Sorry, I don't know. The Nextel person I spoke with on the phone didn't
know, and mumbled a bit. I asked him to get a definitive answer, saying
that I needed to know if it *required* proprietary software, and that if
it would work Linux, it might be okay (thinking that if I got a "yes" on
that, I could press for more information). However, the answer came back
"no." He gave me the number of their tech person (local, 714 area code),
but I didn't pursue it any further withthe tech mainly because I wasn't
sure that I could ask the right questions.
I found reference to the Nextel card at the manufacturer's site
(Motorola), but the site said that the card was Windows only.

I don't know about fixed - I have neither card yet, but will likely try to
switch to Verizon, given some luck under Linux. I get a 15 day trial, so
perhaps I can get it working if someone thinks it worthwhile to try. If I
get it to work, you can be sure that I'll write it up.
