Microsoft's Wordview (Wdvw9716.exe), a free download, reads RTFs.
There are at least two versions of the Word97 viewer -- 16-bit for Win3.1
and 32-bit, Win95 & later (wd97vw32.exe)). Not tiny 2-3MB apiece.
Wordview is a viewing/printing application, no editing. You might have
to install a compatible printer driver.
I've run the 16-bit version in Win-OS/2. The 32-bit version might run OK
under ODIN, but I have not tried.
RTF's are the format of choice (for me) for plain text documents, since
.rtfs cannot contain MSWord macro viruses and are often (usually) smaller
than Microsoft's .doc format. Imagine sending out a resume with a macro virus.
Don't think you're gonna get that job! Just about every word processor
around can read/write .RTFs (although I have NOT done a survey).
Of course, a .pdf file does nearly as well if the document does
not need further editing.
