In the studio this morning (it's a Mac room) we tried transferring some
of the new FAT32 files (originally created on NTFS) to HFS (Mac, not
HFS+) and hit a snag -- maximum HFS filename length is 31. It's always
fun to pay for studio time and not accomplish anything. (We couldn't
rename the files because the control files contain pointers to the old
filenames and the software that created the control files is in a
different studio that runs Windows.)
Here is my question: Are FAT32 filenames fully compatible with HPFS, or
are there any filename "gotchas" that I need to avoid? I need to create
a list of FAT32 file naming rules so I have compatibility with HPFS,
JFS, NTFS, HFS and HFS+. FAT32 is the only partition format that is
compatible with my OS/2, the Windows (NTFS) studios, and the Mac (HFS,
HFS+) studios.
