Subject: SCOUG-Help: HDD cloning / migration

Content Type: text/plain

I'm planning to switch from an 80GB to a 120GB drive
on the Shuttle box, first cloning the former onto the
latter, then expanding / moving some partitions. This
(original) hard drive has one C: DOS boot partition,
and two each of eCS and W2K boot partitions
(basically, Work + Maintenance for each), plus
assorted data partitions. The tools I plan to use are
DFSEE and Partition Magic 8, because DFSEE alone
cannot do certain things that PM makes pretty easy.
At the moment, I don't think that the size of the eCS
boot partitions will change. In fact, I'd say they
won't be touched, except for the fact that several
partitions may get moved "to the right" as a
by-product of this activity, if you know what I mean.

My goal is not to lose bootability on any of the boot
partitions. The use of PM is potentially troublesome
here. I can forsee the LVM data -- which may
reference partition size or location ? -- getting
hosed, in attempting this. What countermeasures can I
take, and do any other issues occur to you ?

TIA.

Jordan
