Subject: SCOUG-Help: Installing Open Office 1.4

I saw that but when someone says engine I expect to find the rest of the
train (in the form of a folder or folders and files) somewhere. Guess
model railroading doesn't carry over to os/2.

>Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_05-b04, mixed mode)

I followed your guidance and got this result in an os/2 window:

[G:\java142\bin]java -version
java version "1.4.2"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2-b28) Java
HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-b28, mixed mode)

I think this answers your question: >What existing Java 1.42?

Now does it make sense to use the command line below to update the
existing java 1.42_05?

>>[J:\OPENOFFICE\packs]jre142_05.exe \extract \directory=g:\java142
>>update=force|yes

>>I already have the version of Innotek's Runtime required by open office
>>1.1.4 in a folder G:\innowin.

>You are confused. 1.1.4 was never an Innotek supplied version.

Sorry I wasn't clear. Open office is not an Innotek product, but the read
me says it requires Innotek's runtime. The read me for runtime in my
G:\innowin folder says it is release 1.12 (Build20) 7/9/04. Is that the
latest one?

Tony Butka said that the installer for open office 1.1.1 created a
directory structure that included open office, jave, and runtime. If I
update the 1.42 I have, will open office find it and the runtime?

How do you recommend that I proceed?

Off the subject--when is the next SCOUG meeting and will you be there? I
am thinking about a trip to the West Coast on my United miles and would
like to meet you and, I hope, Peter Skye and some of the others who have
helped me over the years.

Regards,

Jack
