Steven,
When I ran the weekend backup it took a little longer than usual. I
keep the telnet window open so it constantly scrolls the files as they
are processed, thus there is a fair amount of transfer for an extended
period of time (40-60 minutes). It occurred to me at the time that
either a) Jerry was doing some heavy downloading thus dropping the
available bandwidth or b) there was some line noise.
AFAIK, the duplicate message arises when the final email handshake is
returned by the target but not received by the originator, thus the
originator eventually times out and the message is sent by the
originator a second time. A quick check just showed that after
"helo"/"ehlo" a "quit" from the originator returns a message from the
SMTP server which is echoed onto the screen, thus the originator is
probably expecting this returned message.
