Subject: SCOUG-Help: Installing Open Office 1.4

I tried to install openoffice 1.4 with the installer which is supposed to
guide one through the installation of the font engine, innotek's runtime,
java runtime 1.42_05, and open office itself.

The installation stopped with an os/2 window that said the font engine had
been installed and that I should reboot to make it effective. The only
change, I think, was the addition of ft2lib.dll to c:\os2\dll\. Does
anyone know if there were other changes? The term engine made me expect
many more files and a folder.

The openoffice readme says to be sure the Java runtime version is at
1.42_05; it can be installed separately. I have 1.42 installed in
G:\java142 drive so I went to an os/2 window, input what you see below and
got the results below:

[J:\OPENOFFICE\packs]jre142_05.exe /?
InnoTek OS/2 Kit for Sun Java 2 Standard Edition Version 1.4.2_05 (Build
60) - 2 004-07-09 Can't recognize command line parameter: /?
Please use:
/version - print the version string
/extract - extract files
/directory=dir - set target directory
/unattended - start unattended (CID) installation
/update=[force|yes|no] - overwrite (force), overwrite only older (yes) or
do not overwrite (no) existing files

I think the command line below will update the existing java 1.42. Am I
correct?

[J:\OPENOFFICE\packs]jre142_05.exe \extract \directory=g:\java142
update=force|yes

I am assuming that I don't need the [ ] around the force|yes. Am I
correct?

I already have the version of Innotek's Runtime required by open office
1.1.4 in a folder G:\innowin. I am assuming open office will pick it up
and use it. Is there any reason to doubt that?

TIA for the help.

Jack
