Martin,
OS/2's Media Player is supposed to do that. If you open the Programs
folder, then Multimedia, you'll see several versions of the Media
Player, all with different options to cause the program to play music
files, show video, etc. There is also a folder titled "Sound Bites". I
opened that and double clicked on a file named Bach.mid, and it played
for me.
If that doesn't work for you, perhaps you have broken the association
between .MID files and the Media Player.
