Thanks, Steven. I can put that to very good use right away, if I have to use that
trick with the dial-up modem to clear the line. Fortunately, it may not be immediately
necessary, as the DSL situation here seems to have stabilized for now. I am sure they
will find something damaged at an external amplifier, junction box, or the like, as an
inside-the-premises inspection has already come up negative. With all the nearby storm
damage, particularly in the canyons, the soonest SBC could schedule a visit to climb
the poles and search for the cause was a week away.
