OK, I'm piping in here in mid stream. So please excuse me, if I misinterpret what you are
really talking about and make a mistake.
For IDE drives you can also get an IDE controller PCI board, such as one from Promise
Technology, Inc. Those boards have updated BIOS's to get you past limitations from
your MB (such as not capable of recognizing full drive capacity and limited read/write
speeds) .
