Most email clients check this before adding them so you normally do not get
"RE" duplicated. Of course some email programs are broken and can cause the
problem.
The problem with threading the messages is "In-Reply-To:" header record. In
your message (that I am replying to) you had
In-Reply-To: <42A276F6.5000201@charter.net>
which will chain your message back to Ray's. When he was complaining about the
threading your messages contained
In-Reply-To: 6667
Which is wrong. What you are doing to cause the invalid "In-Reply-To:" I do
not know since there is nothing in the headers indicating what email client is
being used in either case (no "X-Mailer:" header record but all email clients
do not insert that record).
