Subject: SCOUG-Help: E-mail bounce mystery

I assume by the above you mean block all outbound attempts to connect to a
foreign port 25.

This is not what is happening in Peter's case may be the reverse. Some
ISPs block requests from port 25 when the originator is in a DSL IP
address range. Verizon and ATT are two that I know of. There are
currently two SCOUG members that can not receive mail from scoug.com for
this reason. The bounce is reported as:

550 You are not permitted to send mail. Please visit
http://www.verizon.net/whitelist to request removal.

So far attempts over the last month or so to get SCOUG's static IP
whitelisted have failed. My current opinion is anyone that willingly pays
Verizon and ATT for this kind of service really has no one to blame but
themself. There are lots of other ISPs in this area.

This works. The only downside is a few additional received lines in the
header. This is how Denny and Dave currently get SCOUG list mail. I
forward the messages via earthlink.

Steven
