Subject: SCOUG-Help: Upgrading to a New Mozilla

Content Type: text/plain

After the May meeting, I decided it was high time for me to upgrade the
Mozilla on my older eCS system. I've stayed on the last VACPP build,
1.4, for awhile, but I figured I should get caught up to the latest
version, so that I might (1) avoid some problems, and (2) get some help
if I needed it, without having to admit that I'm behind the curve.

I downloaded the 1.7.8 Mozilla .ZIP file, and the latest Firefox and
Thunderbird builds as well, but I decided to stay with the "suite" for
now. I also downloaded the GCC runtime, libc-0.5.1.

I created a new directory on my F: drive, named Mozilla178. I copied
the .ZIP file to that directory and unzipped it. I executed the
LIBC-0.5.1.EXE file, and the Innotek installed installed GCC322.DLL and
LIBC05.DLL into c:\OS2\DLL.

I switched to the Mozilla178\mozilla directory and typed Mozilla. All
that happened was that I got a sort of 'flash' on the screen (I think
from the OS/2 Window disappearing), then a new prompt in the OS/2 Window.

It looks as if I've forgotten some step here. I do not believe that I
have even tried to install any Mozilla version later than 1.4. I have
an IBM Web Browser version installed, but I'm pretty sure it is older
than Mozilla. I did notice some other DLL's that start with "LIBC" -
LIBCM, LIBCN, LIBCS - all dating from 1999.

Can anyone offer a suggestion about what else I must do?

Also, is there a script around for building a program object for the new
Mozilla after it is unzipped? Are the steps for completing the
installation written down somewhere? (I've been looking at various
places on SCOUG.COM.)

Or should I start over using the installer version?
Thanks,
Colin
