If you get error messages when placing VisualAge project files somewhere
other than the Desktop, you have something set up wrong.

If all you are trying to do it place the source files and the build output
someplace other than the boot drive, you can do this just be setting up
the project properties.

However, keep in mind that the VisualAge projects are true WPS objects.
You will lose most of the properties if you lose the desktop. If this is
not important to you, don't worry about it. If it does matter, you need
to use something like Object Desktop to export the object in a portable
format. This is how I move projects between systems.

Peter is leading you astray. These INI files contain global settings.
The contain no project specific data.

I've never used VACobol, but I suspect is shares a lot with VAC which I am
familiar with. Normally VAC will create the project objects on the
Desktop and you would use the location tab to put the source files where
it is most convenient.

The project object is instantiated as a file with EAs. Technically it is
a specialized WPFileSystem object. This means you can move the to another
folder and it should retain its properties. It should also survive a
backup and restore as long as the backup program preserves the EAs.
However, I've not tested this.

VAC has the notion of a master project. Other projects inherit properties
from this project. You need to make arrangements to preserve this
project.
