Update.

I came across a Thinkpad utility, AFTPROS2.EXE, for the 600E.

I ran MINSTALL and uninstalled all devices.
I reran MINSTALL and installed the aftpros2 drivers (Crystal).

On boot up, I got two error messages:

Unable to load CWAUDIO.SYS
RM: IRQ 65535 - Resource conflict.

I have now uninstalled the drivers again, and everything seems to be
working OK (except for sound -- not a terrible loss).

I have only heard the beeping once lately, and it may be a coincidence,
but it stopped when I terminated the Wlan Monitor utility.

I don't know if any of this is helpful, but I thought I would pass it
along.
