I saw that this LVM replacement had proceeded to its 4th release, so I
decided to try it out, even though I have no current need for LVM.
So I downloaded to my older PC, with eCS 1.1 installed. I went through
the readme file, and the installation seemed simple, so I ran install.
I was presented with some messages saying that the install script found
Java 1.1.8 on my machine, and saying that was OK, but that there were
newer Java versions. Installation completed.
The readme tells the user how to invoke the tool. It fails, saying
"Sorry, but Java Runtime 1.3 or greater is required."
The readme says near the end that Java 1.4 has a change to focus
management that can leave the keyboard unusable after closing a Java
dialog, until an object is selected using the mouse, and for this
reason, the author recommends using Java 1.3.
OK, so my eCS 1.1 system is a bit out of date. But I do have Java 1.1.8
and Java 1.4.2.
Should I get a Java 1.3.1? (eComStation isn't letting me get to updates
tonight - it's Sunday evening - but I assume I can find Java 1.3.1 there
tomorrow.)
What's involved in installing it, and making it the Java that is used
everywhere? (I see lots of references to directory C:\JAVA11 in
Config.Sys.)
Would this be a good excuse for downloading the eCS 1.2 refresh and
upgrading the older PC, and would a migration install fix my current
Java level? (Of course, I can't get that tonight, either.)
Is anyone else playing with the Harddisk Manager?
Thanks,
Colin
