Obviously. You missed the point of my question. Ben mentioned setting
and unsetting archive bits and made some statements that appeared to have
the sense of the bit reversed. This could have been a typo, but who
knows. Perhaps he set all the bits on after without understanding the
consequences.

IAC, when debugging, it's best to try to understand the condition that
produces the observed results. He said his full backups and his
differentials were the same size. Assuming that this is really true, the
only thing that explains this is if all the archive bits were set on. We
shall soon know if this is the case.
