I have a suggestion: I think it would be easier for both of us, if I created a CD that
contains the entire contents of our 15 April SCOUG discussion and demonstration. We
could then (temporarily) copy the contents of the CD to a new folder on your laptop and
go from there. Here's what I mean for the files on CD:
1. The SCOUG discussion, using a set of linked *.html files
2. The bootAble download, set up similar to the way I have it on my
computer, but adapted to your laptop:
A. My directory structure for all of the downloaded
bootAble and associated files
B. The latest bootAble and associated files already
downloaded into those directories
Using that directory structure and the *.html file presentation as instructions, create a
bootAble CD for your laptop (we would do that together, but with you running your laptop
and getting the results):
1. Ignore any programs that you do not have on your computer, such as
BackAgain
2. Transfer/copy any programs, recognized by bootAble, but which you
have on your laptop (dfsee, firefox, mozilla, pmview, etc)
3. Copy a couple of scripts (OS/2 commandline and REXX) that I have on
my computer to the CD. These scripts do things like run CHKDSK from the CD and
perform other maintenance things). We should probably only show that the scripts get
copied to the CD, but not run them there
Next, boot from the CD and exercise the various programs copied to the CD. Show that
the scripts exist on the CD.
Finally, talk about all of the cautions you should use, if you are using the CD for crash
recovery:
1. Check out the operability of your crash recovery programs and
procedures right up to the final click to perform the recovery:
A. Does your mouse work from the CD?
B. Can you use the keyboard instead?
C. What are some of the subtilities and workarounds
2. Write on all your procedures, get all of the subtilies
If you agree with the above, I'll go from there. If not, we can do something else. What do
you suggest?
