I have eCS 1.2R on my Thinkpad T42. Lately, when I add new software that
doesn't work, and remove it -- I have trouble booting. The most recent was
when I tried installing Ghostscript and it didn't install for some reason.

Specifically, the boot process proceeds to the point where the desktop
wallpaper shows, and there is a little clock icon in the center. At that
point everything hangs (the desktop icons do not appear, and the clock
icon does not change into a mouse pointer).

Sometimes after several reboots, it will boot to completion. But often I
end up restoring the boot partition from a backup.

Is there a way to troubleshoot this so that I don't have to keep doing a
complete restore?

Thanks,
Sandy
