Congratulations on such a long running system!

Do you clean your WPS ini files regularly with Unimaint, WPtools, or
cleanini? the first thing I would do is clean your ini files.

I also remember problems years ago when every other boot would give me
problems. The problem (IIRC) was that there were two copies of the
desktop, each one booting every other time. I believe that this was due
to some sort of a bug, but was fixed. Maybe not.
