Martin,
On my Dell computer (and I believe on my Indelible Blue as well), the
initial state of the Num Lock key is set in the BIOS. For the Dell,
there is a setting group titled "POST Behavior", and under that, one of
the choices is "Numlock Key".
It shows the factory default setting as "On", and since every Dell I
know about is sold with a Windows operating system installed, I would
say that most (Dell) Windows users have Num Lock "On" after boot.
I can't check the Indelible Blue PC, because that's the one I'm using
for e-mail. But the Num Lock key is definitely "On" on this one, too.
A quick search of CONFIG.SYS for "num" turns up no matches.
