I assume you are using some flavor of Mozilla for your Web browsing. I
also use it for email and Newsgroup messages.

Further, I assume you need some kind of Office Suite. I am using
OpenOffice for this purpose. It can read many (most?) MS Word and Excel
files, and save to that format as well. I cannot swear that you can get
along without the MS Office tools, though, because I don't work much
with docs that have to go back to MS Office users.

I use Fotoget to offload my Canon digital camera pictures. I take the
Compact Flash card out of the camera and put it into a PNY Compact Flash
reader that uses the USB interface. I'm not sure if I ever tried to use
the camera's USB interface. I also use PMView for picture viewing.

I have the Mr. Message instant messenger software installed. The author
has said that he is going to work on another IM tool, but Mr. Message
should be OK until he gets it going.

A Czech programmer is working on a program named Pixel that is a
Photoshop "equivalent". He builds an OS/2 version. I'm only learning
to use this type of tool, so I can't say much about it yet.

If you want to view several (many?) of the popular video formats, get
WarpVision. I haven't learned too much about this tool yet, either.
However, I believe that WarpVision is not yet capable of playing DVDs
dependably.

That is pretty much the toolset I use for my everyday PC adventures.

Both of my PCs have eCS and a Windows version (Win2K Pro on one, WinXP
Home on the other). Sometimes I have to go there, but not very often.

I'm sure you'll be hearing more from others.
Colin
