Subject: SCOUG-Help: video drivers

I would like to understand better how video drivers get installed.

Background:
I had been using Sci-Tech SNAP video drivers from eComStation on my
Thinkpad T42. When I installed the FAT32 drivers, the sound disappeared.

I then went into the SNAP subdirectory and ran the "Uninstall" command.

When I reboot, I was still in 1050x1400 resolution. The only difference I
noted was that in the SCREEN function, the monitor and video types were
"unknown" and there was no reference to any software. During boot up,
there is no longer a reference to Sci-Tech.

Problem:
Then, out of curiosity, I downloaded and installed video drivers from IBM,
which turned out to be a version of Sci-Tech, and which disabled the
sound. But this time when I ran the "Uninstall" utility, I reboot and
found myself facing the 640x480 resolution, with no way to increase it.

Fortunately, I had a backup -- which I restored. So I do have my 1050x1400
plus sound plus Fat32.

What I would like to understand is why one uninstall preserved the
resolution, and the other uninstall lost the resolution with no apparant
way to get it back.

Thanks,
Sandy
