It occurs to me that you may not even need any IR drivers installed for
the kernel debugger to access the IR device. Recall that the IR hardware
looks like a COM port in terms of hardware addressing.

Give it a try and let me know.

I dropped Veit a note and asked him for some hints. He uses the IR port
for debugging on his T42.
